Hello gardeners! This weekend, our family at Oak Hill Farm & Stables started our annual garden. We planted a variety of vegetables, including pole beans, watermelons, lettuce, carrots, pumpkins, cucumbers, onions and bell peppers.

We purchased our seeds at Brawley Garden Center (https://www.brawleygardencenter.com/) in Mooresville, NC, which is a great old place to purchase seeds and plants. The weather was beautiful, and we are looking forward to watching our garden grow and enjoying the produce. To grow a successful garden, there are some important steps to remember.

  1. Soil needs nutrient improvement

  2. Till the ground

  3. Make sure plant spacing is correct

According to NC State, the last frost date in Iredell County is Apr 16 to Apr 22. That date is quickly approaching... so, it is time to begin preparing the ground for planting.

Also, starting seeds indoors can save a little time and give your plants some extra time to grow. Lowe's has seed starter kits for around $10 with a built-in green house.

Maple trees are starting to drop there seeds... I am saving some and going to try and propagate them indoors. Here is the inside view of a Maple seed that has just fallen from a Maple tree in North Charlotte.

Hoping to propagate these indoors and then transfer to larger pots with the hopes of planting trees around the fence rows of the farm.
